CACAP Executive statement on the Nova Scotia tragedy

The Executive, Board and members of the Canadian Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry are heart broken at the tragic loss of life in Nova Scotia with the mass shooting.  To our colleagues in Nova Scotia and to those with family members in Nova Scotia, our thoughts and prayers are with you.  In the context of the current pandemic this devastating event is all the more difficult as capacity to support friends and family in traditional ways is not possible.  However, please take a moment to reach out virtually to those in Nova Scotia and elsewhere who have been impacted by this tragedy.

We also recognize that an event such as this can impact children and families sense of safety in their communities.  Resources to support children in the context of a trauma and increasing anxiety are available through the CACAP website under the resources tab.

Sincere regards,

CACAP Executive
