CACAP urges rejection of Alberta’s proposed legislation impacting care of transgender youth

The CACAP has released a position statement opposing legislation proposed by the Premier of Alberta that would restrict access to puberty-blocking and gender-affirming treatments for adolescents, and would mandate parental consent for name and pronoun changes.

This position statement developed by CACAP’s Advocacy Committee expresses concern about potential infringement on transgender youths’ rights to timely, evidence-based medical care.  The necessity of puberty-suppressing and gender-affirming treatments are highlighted, along with the importance of respecting chosen names and pronouns to promote mental health.

This position statement and other CACAP statements can be found on the Advocacy page.
